A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country battling persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on a Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the forty-year-old media personality was accosted by three individuals, one of whom began shooting at him before escaping on foot.

The reason behind the incident has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, police said.

How It Happened

Authorities revealed that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a premises close to the Carlton Centre.

He had been present for hours at the building supervising the installation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, according to reports.

"It is alleged the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," an official report confirmed.

CCTV footage showed a individual with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before running away.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the attack.
